Delivering Facilities for Grassroots Soccer in the Community

A Growing and Inclusive Club

Mallow United Amateur Football Club has been an integral part of the community in Mallow since it was first established in 1926. Over the decades the club has seen much change and transformation and continues to grow and progress. We are delighted to have introduced girls soccer and Football For All in recent years, welcoming many new members into the club.

The efforts of Mallow United to promote participation in sport across all abilities was recognised when the club was named Inclusive Club of the Year at the annual Cork Schoolboys League awards 2019. With numbers in the club increasing Mallow United is launching an ambitious development plan to deliver state of the art playing facilities that will allow the people of Mallow to participate in soccer in a modern, safe and welcoming environment.

St. Gobnaits Park Development Plans

St. Gobnaits Park is the traditional home of schoolboy soccer in Mallow and we are embarking on an ambitious project to transform our grounds here into a modern facility to serve all members of the club and the wider community.

The project includes the installation of an all weather astro turf training pitch to be used by our boys and girls academies, our schoolboy and schoolgirl teams, our football for all and our youth and adult teams. As the only all weather pitch on the south side of Mallow the facility will also act as an invaluable amenity to the local community including local schools and other local clubs. The project will also include the upgrade of the existing grass pitch to be used by our underage teams. The project will be undertaken as a 3 phase development plan over a 2 year period.

Phase 1 of the project will involve the construction of a new entrance to St. Gobnaits Park at the south western corner of the grounds, a new car park between the existing pitch and the western perimeter of the grounds and a road connecting the new entrance to the carpark. Phase 1 will also include the preparatory ground works for the astro turf pitch to include a retaining wall and land fill at the site of the proposed pitch.

Phase 2 of the project will involve the installation of the all weather astroturf training pitch at the southern end of the grounds with associated fencing and lighting. The astroturf is designed so that it will be possible to divide it into three 6-aside pitches for training multiple teams in parallel and will be large enough to host matches for U12 teams and younger.

Phase 3 of the project is the upgrade of the existing pitch which includes leveling, drainage and resurfacing of the pitch to improve the quality of the pitch and increase its capacity to host games.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our club over the last number of years and to all who will help us achieve our goal to give Mallow United a home to be proud of. You can get supporting straight away by participating in our weekly soccer card fundraiser, the proceeds of which all go towards our development fund and keep up to date with future fundraising events on our facebook page and website.
