Mallow United U11 Girls had a great league win when they visited Cobh to take on Springfield Ramblers on their astroturf pitch. Goals from Sophie and Lexie King gave Mallow a 2-0 win and all three points.
Meanwhile Mallow United Under 15 Girls had a second successive win when they travelled to Inishvilla which keeps them into second place in the league behind Passage with 2 games remaining. Two goals each from Lois Asante and Clodagh O’Callaghan gave Mallow a comfortable 4-0 victory.
The previous Saturday on a cold misty morning in Mitchelstown, Mallows U15 girls had continued their fine form with an excellent win over local team Park United. The game started at a good pace with both teams looking to attack at every opportunity.
Mallow made the breakthrough in the 8th minute when Clodagh O’Callaghan glided through almost the entire Park team, like a downhill skier, to slam home the opening goal.
Following the opening goal, both sides continued to create chances but neither could capitalise. Then in the 22nd minute, the Mitchelstown girls, following a series of corners, forced home an equaliser.
Mallow looked to restore their lead and both Lois and Rejoy Asante went close before Clodagh O’Callaghan scored again, when she swept the ball home in the 27 minute, following a pass from Rejoy Asante. There was no further score in the first half the sides went in at the break with Mallow 2-1 up.
Into the second half and with the Mallow defence well marshalled by Clodagh O’Callaghan and Katie O’Toole, Parks attack did not cause too many problems for keeper Clodagh Lehane.
Gradually Mallow got on top aided by excellent play in midfield from player of the match, Emily Power. However some wasteful finishing , meant the score remained the same until with 5 minutes left in the game, Mallow substitute Clara Crowley, who was taking part in her first ever league game, drove the ball home, following a scramble in the home teams goalmouth. This was followed within a minute of the restart by Mallows forth goal when Rejoy Asante blasted the ball to the back of the Park net.
