U13 Boys Crowned League Champions

Mallow United U13 Boys played out a 3-2 thriller against Springfield Ramblers in the Division 1 title play-off last Saturday. With both sides finishing level on points and already promoted to play Premier Division soccer next season, a play-off was required to decide the league winner.

Aaron Owens gave Mallow an early lead but Springfield equalised before half time. With 5 mins remaining Cathal Mullins put Mallow ahead again but 2 mins later Springfield equalised for a second time. When it looked like the sides couldn’t be separated Jack Roche got a third goal for Mallow to give them the win and a well deserved Division 1 title for the boys and coaches Roy & Willie Cunningham and Don Murphy.

The U13 Boys were also runners up in the Local Cup final the previous week. Having defeated Ringmahon Rangers 4-3 at the semi-final stage they faced Douglas Hall in the final. After an excellent display from the Mallow boys the tie remained scoreless at full time and extra time was required. Douglas snuck the only goal in the extra time period and Mallow finished as commendable runners up.

Mallow United U15 and U13 Boys thus finish their seasons as league champions and cup runners up, a superb year for both sides and a credit to the players, coaches and parents who made it all possible.
