Ciarán Makes Debut For Ireland U15s

22 Jan 2019 by Mallow United PRO

It was a proud moment for Mallow United’s Ciarán O’Sullivan, his family and friends and all at the club last Friday when Ciarán was named in the Republic of Ireland U15 side to face the Netherlands, in what was the second fixture in the four team tournament held in Murcia in Spain. Ireland remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, drawing 1-1 with hosts Spain in their opening game. In the second game in which Ciarán featured on the left wing Ireland drew 2-2 with the Netherlands and in their final game in which Ciarán also featured on both the left and right wing they had a convincing 3-0 win over Hungary. The Ireland side under the guidance of coach Jason Donohue showed that they were more than capable of competing with the best sides in Europe. After the final game Donoghue reflected "The players have been well organised throughout the week and performed excellently in every match. Spain are the best U15 side I’ve ever seen and we matched them so it shows that there is some talent in this group.” This was a fantastic achievement for Ciarán and great credit is also due to the people who have supported him along the way including his family and Ciaráns coaches at Mallow United Prince Amechi and Derek Fortune.
Ciaran was one of four previously uncapped players included in the squad and all but two players in the squad are drawn from League of Ireland Premier Division, English Premiership or English Championship clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Birmingham City, Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers. Mallow United are very proud of to see Ciaran represent the club at such a high level. Ciarán is part of the Mallow United U15 squad who were National Cup semi-finalists and Cork Schoolboys League Cup runners up last season and are currently in a battle for top spot in the U15 Premier Division.
