John Hayes Trophy Final
Mallow United 1 – 3 Leeds

After overcoming Rockmount on penalties on Tuesday evening, Mallow United Juniors faced Fermoy in the semi-final of the John Hayes Trophy in Carrig Park on Thursday evening. Trailing 1-0 with 10 minutes remaining a Derek O’Flynn equaliser got Mallow back into the game before Joe O’Carroll clinched a winner for Mallow in extra-time. Two days later Mallow wear back in action as they faced in form Leeds in the final at Ringmahon Park. In warm conditions Mallow started well but were unable to capitalise on the chances they created. Leeds went a goal ahead when they finished the only real threat they created late in the first half. Uncertainty in the Mallow defence in the second half saw them go two behind before Jojo Noonans through ball found Anthony Bowles whos powerful finish left the Leeds keeper with no chance and brought Mallow back into the game. With time running out Mallow pushed forward leaving themselves exposed at the back and were punished when Leeds scored a third which was enough for a win on the day.
