SFAI U14 National Cup Last 16

Mallow United 4 – 1 Douglas Hall

Mallow United U14s were in top form on Sunday last as they faced Cork rivals Douglas Hall in the last 16 of the National Cup. Mallow started well and with only five minutes on the clock a through ball from Mallows Ciarán O’Sullivan found Kennedy Amechi at the edge of the box who turned and slotted home to put Mallow a goal ahead. Mallow continued to press and 15 minutes in a superb cross field ball from Ben Buckley was controlled by Amechi 12 yards from goal and he fired home Mallows second despite the close attention of the Douglas Hall defense. Douglas Hall struggled to create any clear opportunities in the first half with the Mallow back four of Ben Creedon, Shane O’Connell, Donncadh Doherty and Daniel Ryan standing firm in front of Osinski in goal. Mallow maintained the high tempo in the second half with Pa O’Grady and Alex O’Leary working hard in the centre of the park and Callum Carroll and Ben Buckley pressing on the wings. 48 minutes in and Amechi got his hat-trick with an individual effort that saw him break from midfield, outpacing the Douglas Hall rear-guard before shooting home from 12 yards. Paul Griffin, John Adedji, John Pelechacz and Joe Power were all introduced in the second half which Mallow continued to dominate. Harry Nevin pulled one back for Douglas Hall on the 57 minute mark with a great free kick from 20 yards. The Mallow goals then endured a busy 10 minute period before Amechi sealed the win for Mallow rounding off an emphatic performance scoring his fourth of the day with 5 mins remaining. This was a big result for Mallow as they continue a great season which now sees them join the last 8 teams in Ireland in the quarter finals of the National Cup.
