Cork Schoolgirls League Division 2

Mallow United 4 – 2 Carrigaline Hibs

On Sunday, the 8th of October, Mallow United U14 Schoolgirls played their first league match at St. Joseph’s Road against Carrigaline Hibs. The teams were well matched for the first quarter with some excellent work in defence from Katie O’ Toole, Abbie Hayes and Lauryn O’ Flynn. Despite a promising start Mallow conceded two unlucky goals which had the ladies down 2-0 at half time.
In the second half, Mallow dominated possession and claimed their first goal with an excellent finish from Niamh Willams followed closely by a second from Clodagh O’Callaghan, deftly fed to her by Destiny Osamye. With spirits lifted, the girls grew in confidence. With 15 minutes to go Clodagh O’Callaghan scored her second goal of the day to make it 3 -2 in favour of Mallow. Tensions were high, until in the final three minutes Rejoy Asante, aided by her sister Lois in midfield, clinched a fourth goal for Mallow rocketing the ball into the back of the Carrigaline net.
It was a great victory for the girls as they begin their league campaign and signals a great year ahead. Overall, a great team effort, well done girls!
