U13 National Cup

Mallow United 3 – 2 Rockmount

Mallow U13 Premier hosted Rockmount in the first round of the National Cup last Sunday lunch time and it was Rockmount who started the better with Mallow taking some time to settle. Mallow gradually came into the game however and when Daniel Smith crossed low to the far post Louis Hanover was on hand to finish. Ten minutes later Jamie O’Neill weaved his way down the wing and crossed for Daniel Smith to finish low to the corner. Mallow worked hard for every ball but Rockmount were up for this game and gave as good as they got and finally pulled one back from a penalty just before half time.
In the second half Jerry Collins went close firing just outside the post and it was Jerry’s great through ball that found Shane Cronin who lobbed the keeper from just outside the area to give Mallow a 3-1 lead. Mallow’s own keeper Kevin Kilmartin had a fine game in goal coming off his line to thwart Rockmount. The visitors had a second penalty just before the end but Mallow held on for a hard fought victory.
